A Rainy Trip to Austin, TX

Hey guys!

With the blog reboot, I’m finally getting around to doing this Austin round-up. We went for a 6-day trip in February. It was amazing. The weather was a little chilly and rainy compared to normal, and actually compared to back home.
There was a very unusual heat wave in New England when we were in Austin, so it was actually warmer in Massachusetts some days. It reached the 70’s back home and we were in the 40’s in Austin. Every time we travel we seem to bring the cold air with us!
We went to North Carolina a few years ago and there were all-time record cold temperatures. The pipes in our AirBnb froze!

But, back to Austin.

KHM-1369I’ve been a fan of the brand Spell & The Gypsy for ages. This Folktown Maxi dress is about three years old. I had never been able to visit a shop that carried them in New England, so hitting up the two shops in Austin that carry them was high on my priorities list.  KHM-1408KHM-1448KHM-1511KHM-1710KHM-1762This was the Spell & The Gypsy dress I ultimately bought at the shop Southern Hippie. That was such a wonderful experience. The shop owner Elizabeth was so sweet and helpful. My mom and I stayed there and talked to her for about an hour. She is such an amazing person and you should definitely check out Southern Hippie if you’re ever in Austin!
They were opening an acai bowl and smoothie bar in the shop the week after we visited. I wish we could have tried it because it sounded amazing!

Honestly, it’s a little weird looking at these photos now, 9 months later because I’ve lost almost 20 pounds since these were taken. It wasn’t on purpose, I got put on a low-carb diet to treat my SIBO and it happened as a result of that.

It’s just strange that I can actually see a difference in my body from then to now. I’ve lost weight in the past but it was on purpose then.

KHM-1413Anyway, we spend a day exploring downtown and went to the Texas State Capitol Building. It was pretty dang beautiful. I’m a sucker for ornate buildings, so I loved looking at all the intricate woodwork inside.KHM-1428KHM-1437KHM-1773Seth found this chicken in the backyard and insisted I take a photo of him with it, so here it is. KHM-1792Now, for my other highlight of the trip, Inner Space Cavern.
This wound up being the perfect rainy day activity. I loved every step. It was such a cool place, unlike anything I’d ever seen before. KHM-1845Full disclosure though, those pink and purple spots are not a small galaxy inside of the caves, they were lights that indicated the depth of that area. The darker the color, the further back it went.KHM-1899KHM-1901KHM-1934This was my other Spell look on the trip. This top has since been sold on my Poshmark, but I’m glad I got a little use out of it. KHM-1940

KHM-1922This bus was on the same street as out AirBnb and I was obviously obsessed with it. I think that sculpture is Oblina from Aaahh!!! Real Monsters.

I couldn’t write a post about Austin without talking about the tacos I think about on a nearly daily basis. We were lucky enough to be staying right around the corner from Taco Deli and oh, boy was it amazing. My mouth is watering just thinking about it.
I don’t have any photos, so you’ll just have to trust me and go there if you ever get the chance. And mail me a taco if you do.

I hope you’ve enjoyed this rambly, not super informative post!
